When you think of Fort Wilderness at Walt Disney World, camping in the woods might come to mind. Fort Wilderness is actually a campground and resort like no other and is actually rated as one of the top campgrounds in the country. Fort Wilderness offers the usual camping amenities for tent and RV camping such as bathrooms with showers and laundry, a store with general dry goods and some basic food items and several pools. It also offers recently renovated cabins complete with a full kitchen and roomy enough for 6 people. The kitchen includes a full-size refrigerator, convection/microwave oven, coffee maker, toaster, dishwasher and a 2-burner stovetop. Mousekeeping even comes and cleans your cabin and dirty dishes.

The one bedroom cabins have a queen bed with a set of bunk beds in the bedroom and a sleeper sofa in the living room. There is a kitchen table roomy enough for six people to sit around. The updated kitchen features stainless steel appliances, cooking utensils such as pots and pans and a full set of dishes. There is even a deck attached to the cabin with a grill and picnic table. The cabins also give you quite a bit of privacy since there is lots of space between them and there is plenty of room to park a car out front.

My family stayed at one of the cabins when our kids were little and we loved having the bedroom so our youngest could take a nap when she needed to. We even entertained some relatives who live close to Disney in the roomy living area.

The amount of activities available at Fort Wilderness could fill up days! Amenities and activities include: ● Chip n Dale’s Campfire sing-along every night ● Disney Movies under the Stars - a different movie every night of the week! ● Nightly viewing of the Electric Water Pageant from the beach area of the campground ● 2 pools ● A children’s pool and water playground ● Playgrounds ● An arcade ● A marina with boat and canoe rentals ● Bike rentals ● Basketball court ● Tennis courts ● Volleyball courts ● Hayrides ● Archery ● Golf cart rental ● Segway’s ● Fishing ● Jogging trails ● Horse-drawn carriage rides ● Pony rides for kids ● Petting Farm ● A dog park

There are also great food options with 3 quick services (P & J’s Southern Takeout, The Chuck Wagon food truck and Meadow Snack Bar), 1 table service (Trail’s End Buffet), 1 lounge (Crockett’s Tavern) and 2 dinner shows (the famous Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue and Mickey’s Backyard BBQ).

The campground is so large that there is an internal bus system to help you get around. Guests may also rent golf carts to help get from one part of the campground to another (advanced reservations recommended for golf carts and there is a daily rental fee).

The cabins at Fort Wilderness are truly the perfect choice for families that want to enjoy the peace and quiet of a more natural setting with the comforts of home!
